This is a great article, echoing some of the points we keep making with our students. Being able to code is only part of the story, being an excellent user of all the tools you need to write and publish software, a really good understanding of the technology it will work on, a good understanding of the business context and an ability to self-manage, to work effectively in a team and to communicate, these are all important factors.

You are so right about a 'software development industry', it doesn't exist as an industry on its own but as functions within the vast majority of industries. As a developer, it is more about the industry that you develop in.
